CASE STUDY |
Maureen was suffering with chronic back and sciatic pain, which had been getting progressively worse to the point of becoming very debilitating. The constant pain, was severely affecting her mobility and daily life, limited to sitting in a chair most of the day with very little movement around the house, this was both frustrating and depressing.
Maureen has aways been a very active lady and loves gardening, this was something she was no longer able to enjoy and desperately hoped to change ..... She was also no longer able to get in or out of the car. I was originally approached by Maureen's granddaughter, one of my clients; to see if I could help with her pain and mobility restrictions. I explained that as the condition was long term - (30 years) a number of regular appointments would be necessary, we started the sessions with low expectations hoping to reduce the pain and a target to get Maureen back in her garden! Maureen started her fortnightly appointments towards the end of October 2016. She was unable to climb on or off the table without assistance and could only lie on her side. She had significant tension in both legs, with severely restricted ankles, painful knees, lower back and sacrum/pelvis pain. Maureen did gentle exercises between appointments. Gradually her pain levels dropped and more mobility was gained, she was having a couple of good days then pain levels were rising again. On her 4th session she was able to climb on and off the couch unaided, had been out in the car and done a small amount of walking around. We continued fortnightly, by the 7th session the pain level had reduced for 9/10 to 3/10 . Two weeks later Maureen was walking more, cleaned the brasses, knitted, and her appetite had improved; could get in and out of the car "brilliantly" and had been visiting family. We have continued to make progress Maureen is now doing much more including going to the super market and pushing the trolley! "You have given Mum her life back" We are now moving to a monthly appointment. Karen Slater 17th May 2017 |
