WHAT IS THE BOWEN TECHNIQUE?The Bowen Technique is a gentle, subtle and relaxing hands-on treatment.
The Bowen move is very distinctive and is applied at precise points throughout the body, involving muscles, tendons, ligaments, fascia and other soft tissue. These gentle moves are thought to stimulate the tissue and nerve pathways, creating a focus for the brain, prompting the release of soft tissue tension, aiming to restore structural balance, relieving tension and reducing pain. |
"My range of movement has greatly increased and pain levels dramatically reduced." |
What does an appointment involve?
- Most work can be performed through light clothing or directly on the skin.
- Three to four treatments, at weekly intervals are often sufficient to achieve lasting relief. However, for chronic long term problems further treatments are recommended.
- Bowen is suitable for adults, children and newborn babies.
- The first appointment will be 1hour plus, and includes a structural assessment, details of injuries and relevant medical history.
- Strict Covid guidelines are implemented in order to keep you safe.
BOWEN FOR SPORTS PERFORMANCE
More and more amateur and professional sportsmen and woman are booking regular Bowen treatment as part of their training programme A growing number of athletes and professional sports people are discovering that regular Bowen Technique work enhances performance and reduces the incidence of injury. Bowen can bring rapid relief and a quick return to training, if or when injury occurs, particularly in soft tissue damage. Check my blog for more information on Bowen in Sports
“The quality of my training is better, with the same number of hours and level of training” explains GB triathlete Victoria Gill |
A testimonial from James Ellison, professional motorcycle racer courtesy of Bowen Kendal.........
"To introduce myself, my name is James Ellison, I am a 32 year old professional motorcycle racer from Kendal in Cumbria.
The first time I heard of Bowen Technique, I was In the Gym I use in Kendal (Pride Health and Fitness) the owner there Andy Wildsmith Pattison, to give him his full title, is a Bowen Technique practitioner.
On this particular day I was in some considerable pain and Andy offered me a treatment.
I can safely say that the only regret I have about Bowtech is not finding out about it sooner.
As professional motorcycle racer and my body goes through an extreme amount of stress on the race track, in the gym and during endless hours on a bicycle in preparation for each race.
Besides this continuous stress i have had my fair share of crashes (some at over 180mph) including breaking my right femur and having my left medial meniscus removed just a few years ago.
As you can imagine this in itself causes lots of imbalances and general tightness around the body.
Over time I have had lots of Physiotherapy treatments including deep tissue, Pressure Point, Acupuncture and a lot of painkillers non of which seem to have any immediate relief or long term benefits.
I tried Bowtech for the first time when I was in severe pain in my lower back from a trapped nerve that had flared up, it had been troubling me on and off for as long as I can remember, after my first treatment I could not believe how good I felt, not just in that one problem area which had been cured but all over, all my niggling pains seemed to have subsided considerably.
I continue to go back just to stay on top of things as its vital to stay sharp for my career, I have never felt so good and will continue to recommend it to anyone looking for pain relief or even just wanting to improve their quality of life.
We need to all spread the word, this technique really is life changing!"

"Karen is brilliant she has been doing our horses for the past three years. I recently had a treatment and it has worked wonders. |
Hi Karen - Just wanted to let you know what a difference you have made to my achilles. Feels so much better today! |
Anatomical understanding of the Bowen Fascial Release Technique
Fascia is a word we usually associate with the roofing industry relating to 'bands of material' joining one surface to another. In the human body it is an emerging science of the connective tissue. An elastic or often inelastic structural system that encompasses, wraps round and contributes to stability, flexibility, function and movement. Our understanding of our muscular skeletal system has moved on into the 21st century and the fascia is at the centre of this scientific investigation.
The connective tissue network appears to respond well to lighter more intelligent intervention that doesn't seek to manipulate or force structure into change. Bowen is considered fascial work. The potential restructuring that takes place could be the result of internal adaption in the elasticity of the fascia creating more space for anatomy to move and behave in a more comfortable biomechanics equilibrium, creating a physiological environment for injuries to heal and possibly assist in prevention as well.
This is an emerging science that relies on skilled practitioners with excellent anatomical knowledge and practical hands on intelligence.
